Whether an SBI CDM deposit costs anything depends on two things: what you use to start the transaction (your own card, someone else’s card, or no card) and what kind of account receives the money. The rules below come from SBI’s published charges for Cash Deposit Machines and its Automated Deposit-cum-Withdrawal Machine (ADWM) waiver for current accounts.
The basic rule for savings accounts
| How the deposit is made | Charge per transaction |
|---|---|
| Account holder’s own personal-segment debit card, into the linked account | Nil |
| Third-party debit card | ₹22 + GST |
| Cardless deposit | ₹22 + GST |
| SME Insta card | ₹22 + GST |
| Green Remit Card (GRC) | ₹22 + GST |
What ₹22 + GST really costs
GST on banking services is 18%, so the fee is ₹22 + ₹3.96 = ₹25.96 per transaction. Two cardless deposits in a week cost about ₹52. If you deposit into your own account often, carrying your own debit card saves the full amount.
The current account waiver
SBI updated its ADWM rules for current accounts (page revised on 2 December 2025). For current account holders, the following CDM deposits carry no charge:
| Deposit route into a current account | Per-transaction limit |
|---|---|
| Debit card linked to the current account | Up to ₹1,00,000 |
| Cardless | Up to ₹49,900 |
| Third-party deposit into a current account | Up to ₹49,900 |
| Green Remit Card | ₹25,000 per transaction, ₹1,00,000 per month |
For shop owners who deposit the day’s takings in the evening, this means a staff member can deposit into the business current account without a card and without a fee, as long as each transaction stays within ₹49,900.
Three worked examples
- Ravi deposits ₹15,000 into his own savings account with his own SBI debit card. Charge: nil.
- Ravi’s mother deposits ₹15,000 into Ravi’s savings account without a card. Charge: ₹22 + GST = ₹25.96, debited from the receiving account.
- A shop assistant deposits ₹45,000 into the shop’s current account, cardless. Charge: nil under the current account waiver, because it is within ₹49,900.
What GRC and SME Insta mean
A Green Remit Card is a card SBI issues so a person (for example a migrant worker) can deposit cash into one fixed account, usually a family member’s in another town, without a full debit card. An SME Insta card comes with SBI’s quick-open small business current accounts. Both are charged like cardless deposits on savings accounts.
Where to check your own charges
The fee appears as a separate debit in the account statement, normally labelled with the CDM or ADWM code. If you see one you did not expect, compare it with the tables above before raising a complaint; most “surprise” charges are cardless or third-party deposits.

Common questions
Who pays the ₹22 + GST: the depositor or the account holder?
The charge is debited from the account that receives the money, not collected from the person at the machine.
Do deposits at a branch counter cost the same?
No. Counter deposits follow a separate schedule of charges based on the account type and number of cash transactions. The figures here apply only to CDM and ADWM deposits.
Does the waiver apply to savings accounts too?
The nil-charge rules in the second table are SBI’s current account rules. Savings accounts follow the first table.
