SBI’s Cash Deposit Machines (CDMs) let you put cash into a savings, current, PPF, RD or loan account without standing in the branch queue. Most of the “SBI CDM near me” searches that bring people to Tekdroip come from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, where these machines usually sit inside the same e-corner as the ATM. This guide covers the deposit itself; charges have their own guide.
Before you leave home
- Sort the notes. The machine takes ₹100, ₹200 and ₹500 notes. Coins are not accepted.
- Flatten every note. Folded corners, staple holes, pins, rubber bands and tape are the most common reasons a CDM pushes notes back out.
- Count to 200 or fewer. One deposit can hold a maximum of 200 notes. If you are carrying more, plan two transactions.
- Write down the account number if you are depositing for someone else, and double-check it with them.
Card deposit or cardless: which one to use
| With your SBI debit card | Cardless | |
|---|---|---|
| Who uses it | Account holder depositing into the account linked to the card | Anyone depositing into any SBI account |
| Limit per transaction | Up to ₹2,00,000, provided PAN is linked to the account | ₹49,900 |
| Receipt | Shows the account balance after the deposit | Confirms the amount and account |
The ₹49,900 cardless cap is set just below ₹50,000 on purpose: that is the level above which PAN details are normally required for cash deposits. If you regularly deposit larger amounts, link PAN to the account and use the debit card.
The deposit, step by step
- Pick the right slot. In a shared e-corner, the CDM is the machine with a wide note tray (often labelled “Cash Deposit” or “Bunch Note Acceptor”). A normal ATM only has a narrow dispensing slot.
- Start the transaction. Insert the debit card and enter the PIN, or choose the cardless deposit option on the welcome screen.
- Enter the account number (cardless only). The machine asks for it twice. Read the partial account-holder name shown on screen before going further; this is your chance to catch a typo.
- Load the notes when the tray opens. Put them in as a neat stack, all facing the same way. Do not push the tray shut by hand.
- Check the count. The screen lists how many notes of each value were accepted and returns rejected ones. Re-flatten rejected notes and try them once more, or take them to the branch.
- Confirm. Nothing is credited until you press confirm. If you walk away at the count screen, the transaction can time out.
- Keep the receipt until the credit shows up in the passbook or app.
Why the machine rejects notes
A CDM scans each note for size, thickness, ink and security features. Old notes that are soft from use, notes with writing on them, and taped notes fail the scan more often than fresh ones. A rejected note is not necessarily fake. It simply did not pass the machine’s check, and a bank teller can accept it at the counter if it is genuine.
Deposits into PPF, RD and loan accounts
SBI allows CDM deposits into Public Provident Fund, Recurring Deposit and loan accounts as well as savings and current accounts. Use the cardless route and the PPF, RD or loan account number. This is handy for monthly RD instalments or loan EMIs when the branch is busy.

Common questions
Can I deposit cash into someone else’s SBI account at a CDM?
Yes. Choose the cardless option and enter their account number. Check the name shown on screen, because a deposit to the wrong account cannot be pulled back by the machine.
Is there a daily limit as well as a per-transaction limit?
The limits SBI publishes are per transaction. Large or frequent cash deposits can still be reported to the tax department under the bank’s own reporting rules, so keep a record of where the cash came from.
The CDM is “out of service” at night. Is that normal?
CDMs are switched off while being emptied or serviced, and some are inside branches that close their e-corner after hours. Our listing pages show the timings recorded for each location.
